Job summary

McKinley seeks a Treatment Counselor to provide professional child care in a trauma-informed, culturally sensitive manner while serving as a positive role model.

Responsibilities include supervising children, supporting development of social and educational skills, documenting progress, and collaborating with the treatment team to deliver effective care across multiple sites in southern California.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or valid teaching permit or equivalent youth work coursework with 100 hours experience.
• Certificate as Alcohol/Drug Counselor with 100 hours youth experience.
• Trade/ Vocational certificate with 100 hours youth experience.
• Group home/STRTP experience for at least one year.
• CDSS eligibility criteria.
• Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and protect children, ensuring safety within a trauma-informed framework.
• Work with treatment team to develop children’s skills (social, vocational, educational, hygiene).
• Document progress and communicate needs to Unit Manager.
• Report issues to Facility Managers/Unit Managers.
• Collaborate with CFT to implement activities for children.
• Administer discipline and set limits as needed.
• Provide crisis intervention and, if needed, physical restraints.
• Dispense medications as directed when indicated.
• Engage with families and significant persons therapeutically.
• Complete required documentation and attend training/meetings.
• Assist in orientation and training of new counselors.
• Perform other related duties to ensure health and safety.
