Job summary

Mary’s Place in Seattle, WA is seeking a Food Service Manager to lead all kitchen operations, menu planning, and food safety for families experiencing homelessness. The role emphasizes trauma-informed, culturally responsive service and close collaboration with shelter programs.

The position is full-time exempt with occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays, and offers a salary of $88,000–$93,000 per year DOE.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years’ institutional and restaurant experience including sanitation & safety standards.
• 3+ years of management experience hiring, training, developing and coaching staff.
• High school diploma or GED plus three years related experience; or equivalent combination.
• Experience with menu planning, inventory management and ordering.
• Experience delegating tasks in a fast-paced kitchen.
• Working knowledge of commercial grade kitchen equipment.
• Food Handler permit required.
• Willingness to take a TB test within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all food service functions including kitchen operations, menu planning, food preparation, inventory management, purchasing, donor and vendor relationships, and food safety compliance.
• Ensure guest-centered, trauma-informed, culturally responsive service aligned with Mary’s Place mission.
• Lead production management, supervise kitchen staff, and maintain a positive, inclusive work environment.
• Develop culturally responsive menus for 450-500 shelter guests with family-friendly meals.
• Collaborate with program staff to support resident wellness and shelter events through thoughtful meal planning.
• Oversee maintenance and scheduling with Facilities Manager.
