Job summary

Maya Angelou Schools See Forever Foundation is seeking a Social Worker/Clinical Counselor for a position located at the Youth Service Center in Washington, DC. The role focuses on trauma-informed counseling and school-wide SEL within a secure juvenile detention setting.

The candidate will provide individual counseling, behavior interventions, and collaborate with staff to support students ages 13–21; strong documentation and IEP experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in social work or related field; DC license required.
• OSSE certification within 1 year.
• Experience in juvenile detention or secure facilities preferred.
• Experience in community-based mental health or school settings.
• Strong documentation and reporting skills.
• Commitment to strength-based youth development approach.

Responsibilities

• Provide trauma-informed mental health, behavioral, and social-emotional support to students in a juvenile detention setting.
• Conduct intake screenings, risk assessments, and ongoing needs assessments; set individualized counseling goals.
• Design and implement school-wide social emotional learning (SEL) programming.
• Participate in IEP, manifestation, SST, transition, and re-entry planning meetings.
• Maintain timely records and ensure compliance with IDEA, FERPA, and relevant regulations.
• Perform other duties to maintain a safe and effective educational environment.
