Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) to provide trauma-informed medical-forensic services to survivors of sexual assault in Illinois. The role emphasizes prompt, compassionate care, evidence collection, counseling on emergency contraception, STI prophylaxis, documentation, and court testimony as needed.

The SANE will work with an interdisciplinary team, maintain strong privacy protections, stay current with regulatory guidelines, and support survivors through

Qualifications

RN with Illinois license and BLS at hire
IAFN 40-hour didactic completion
IL SANE clinical training log required
MSN APRN license or BSN/ADN with commitment to BSN within 3 years

Responsibilities

Acts autonomously following professional standards (SASETA, IL Nurse Practice Act)
Collaborates with multidisciplinary team to facilitate care
Maintains accurate documentation to ensure SASETA compliance
Maintains survivor privacy and chain of custody for evidence
Keeps up-to-date with regulatory guidelines
Educates survivors and families to support recovery
Testifies in court as required
Mentors new SANEs and shares knowledge
Supports quality improvement and program evaluation
Attends monthly SANE meetings and participates in peer review
