Job summary
People USA seeks Peer Companions in Hyde Park, NY to support the rose house crisis respite. You will provide peer support, instill hope, and aid guests in wellness and recovery using trauma-informed techniques.
Must have personal lived experience with trauma or mental health history, and a High School Diploma. Training and NY State certification opportunities are offered; holidays may be required.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma required and willingness to obtain NY Peer Specialist Certification.
- One year in recovery or similar peer-support experience preferred.
- Experience with trauma-informed approaches and wellness tools.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
- Commitment to Holidays and community engagement.
Responsibilities
- Support guests during intake, arrival, and departure.
- Share personal experiences to encourage wellness and recovery.
- Connect guests to mental health services and resources.
- Model trauma-informed techniques per WRAP/ASIST guidance.
- Complete APS online learning and NY State certification application.
- Transport guests when needed using agency vehicle.
- Provide 24/7 peer warm line support via phone.
- Maintain a clean, trauma-informed environment and assist with duties.
- Collaborate with Rose House team and communicate openly.
