Job summary

Hour Children is seeking a Parenting Education Facilitator for the Rose M. Singer Center on Rikers Island to support justice-involved women and their families, strengthening connections and promoting reunification outcomes.

You will oversee Hour Children’s parenting education offerings, including Partners in Parenting, Anger Management, and Healthy Relationships, coordinating with Doulas and nursery residents to extend services to community families.

Qualifications

• BA preferably in Education or Social Work and/or prior work experience in group facilitation.
• Master's degree preferred but not required.
• At least two years of direct practice experience working with individuals and families affected by incarceration, criminal justice, foster care or family court involvement, substance abuse issues, and/or intimate partner violence.
• Successful completion of background investigation by DOC as part of the volunteer application process.
• A demonstrated commitment to parents' rights and social justice.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must have the ability to provide effective services and produce accurate written documents in a timely fashion.
• Must be able to work with people from diverse backgrounds in a culturally inclusive manner.
• Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Computer and technical skills, specifically Microsoft Office programs.
• Spanish language fluency is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Visiting and Family Assistance Staff to plan, administer and evaluate curriculums.
• Facilitate gender-responsive and trauma-informed group programming addressing parenting and relationships.
• Evaluate curriculums for relevance and revise as needed.
• Develop and coordinate enrichment opportunities and workshops.
• Work with Doulas to support new mothers and develop curricula for nursery participants.
• Pre- and post-test participants to show knowledge gains and document outcomes.
• Oversee scheduling, locations, attendance and graduation planning.
• Facilitate weekly family support groups in the community, including Grandparents Raising Grandchildren.
• Maintain client information in electronic databases and hard files, and submit data regularly.
• Attend staff meetings, trainings, and external partner trainings.
• Comply with jail procedures and PREA requirements.
• Perform additional duties as directed by supervisor.
