Job summary

The State of Washington Department of Children, Youth, and Families seeks a Juvenile Rehabilitation Counselor 2 in Spokane to provide trauma-informed aftercare services, coordinate transition planning, and support CTS and parole aftercare for youth and families.

You will use Risk-Need-Responsivity principles, collaborate with JRC1s and JR Specialists, and participate in Future Planning to ensure smooth reentry and community safety. A degree plus relevant experience is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, AND one year of professional experience in casework, counseling, probation and parole, social services, planning, directing, and/or facilitation youth group activities or related field.
  • OR one year as a Juvenile Rehabilitation Counselor Assist (JRCA) or Juvenile Rehabilitation Counselor 1 (JRC1).
  • OR Equivalent combination of education and experience totaling five years.
  • Note: A master’s degree in psychology, sociology, social work, social sciences, or allied field will substitute for the one year of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide aftercare services to youth on supervision and their families to support transition and reentry, while adhering to established parole aftercare and CTS.
  • Conduct interviews and administer/interpret assessments to determine risk, required level of care/supervision, and referral for indicated treatment services; prepares youth and their families for youth transition back to the community and addresses supervision and service requirements.
  • Model pro-social adaptive behavior and assess youth behavior for risk to self or community and refer for treatment services using standardized assessment and the Risk-Need-Responsivity principles.
  • Collaborate with JRC1s, JR Specialists, and other JRC2s.
  • Participate in Future Planning Meetings when a youth is admitted to JR, during CTS evaluation, and when a youth is released from residential supervision.
  • Develop family service plans in consultation with families and service providers within the JR Integrated Treatment Model.
