Job summary

Heartshare seeks a Youth Counselor to provide supervised, supportive care in a home-like environment for children, focusing on positive growth. You will supervise daily activities, monitor health and meals, coordinate transportation to activities, and document logs and incidents with trauma-informed practices.

Responsibilities include counseling, crisis intervention, adherence to medication regimens, and collaboration with staff on service plans.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Must possess a valid NYS driver's license.
• Minimum 1 year of professional childcare experience with youth.
• Experience working with youth with serious emotional disturbance is preferred.
• Willingness to obtain fire safety certification within 3 months.

Responsibilities

• Provide supervision, support and direction to children in a homelike setting.
• Maintain hazard-free, clean and orderly household; prepare meals per menus.
• Monitor daily activities and appointments; ensure punctual attendance.
• Administer medications as required and document medical logs.
• Provide transportation for activities and appointments when needed.
• Deliver counseling and crisis intervention; enforce rules and behavior plans.
• Complete incident, medical and program paperwork; attend supervision meetings.
• Assist in residence duties: cleaning, laundry, shopping, meal planning.
• Organize independent living skills groups and record client progress.
