Job summary

Heartshare seeks a Youth Counselor to provide supervision, support and direction to children in a structured home setting. You will help with daily schedules, meals, transportation, and documentation, while maintaining a safe, nurturing environment.

The role requires trauma-informed practice, crisis intervention skills, and strong interpersonal communication to support residents’ growth. Evening hours and flexibility are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1 year of professional childcare experience with youth, preferably with serious emotional disturbance.
• Experience working with diverse communities and cultural sensitivity.
• Trauma-informed practices and crisis intervention skills preferred.
• Ability to supervise, transport and supervise residents during activities.

Responsibilities

• Provide a warm, homelike atmosphere and build individual relationships to support positive growth.
• Supervise daily activities, wake-up, school, meals, study time and chores.
• Monitor health, ensure appropriate clothing, meals and medical treatments as needed.
• Discipline according to Healing Home procedures and maintain safety rules.
• Accompany and transport children to outside activities and appointments.
• Prepare meals and snacks per menus; complete logs and reports.
• Record client progress and participate in service planning and reviews.
• Deliver counseling and crisis intervention as required; enforce medication schedules.
• Coordinate household duties and supervise children in developing independent living skills.
• Attend supervision, meetings and ensure documentation is timely and accurate.
