Job summary

Albany Med Health System is seeking a Physician Assistant to join the Acute Care Surgery & Critical Care (ACS&CC) team, providing ED coverage during peak trauma and surgical hours. You will collaborate with attending surgeons, residents, and other APPs to ensure high-quality patient care.

The position requires NYS licensure and NCCPA certification, with BLS/ACLS; 1–2 years of surgical or inpatient experience preferred. Competitive benefits accompany the role.

Qualifications

• Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Current NYS licensure and national certification (NCCPA).
• BLS and ACLS certifications required.
• Willing to audit or ATLS certified.
• 1-2 years of relevant surgical or inpatient care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Represent the ACS&CC team in the Emergency Room as a provider.
• Provide back up for inpatient medical-surgical floor ACS APP providers.
• Perform ED consultations with comprehensive patient assessments, histories, and physical examinations for the ACS&CC service line.
• Perform procedures and wound care as required in the ED.
• Deliver care to patients of the ACS&CC division that are boarded in the ED.
• Respond to Level 3 traumas and provide trauma consultations.
• Coordinate patient discharges and ensure follow-up care is arranged.
• Respond to ED ACS&CC consults and provide timely evaluations.
• Document all clinical encounters and procedures in the EMR.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members.
• Partner with ACS & CC team members (surgeons, APP, residents, students).
• Weekday or Weekend Shifts
• Conduct one quality improvement project annually
• Support education, research and quality
• Contribute to care team meetings
