Responsibilities

  • Transports patients and patient related items as dispatched in a safe and efficient manner following hospital protocols.
  • Keeps the Dispatcher informed of transport delays to maintain workflow.
  • Ensures transport is accompanied by an SBAR and reviews transport specific information (e.g., O2, aspiration risk, fall risk).
  • Follows Infection Prevention protocols by proper hand hygiene and disinfecting equipment after transport.
  • Verifies patient ID using two identifiers, including wrist band check.
  • Inspects wheelchairs and stretchers for serviceability; reports and tags equipment needing repair.

Hiring Range: $17.00 - $21.25 Hourly

Position Summary

Provides safe and efficient transport for assigned patients and patient related items throughout the hospital in a courteous and professional manner thus enhancing patient satisfaction.

Primary Position Responsibilities
  • Transports patients and patient related items as dispatched in a safe and efficient manner following the protocols established by the hospital and its departments.
  • Keeps the Dispatcher informed of transport delays in the event a reassignment is necessary in order to maintain an efficient workflow throughout the department.
  • Ensures the transport of a patient is accompanied by an SBAR and reviews the SBAR for transport specific information (e.g., O2, aspiration risk, fall risk, etc.)
  • Follows Infection Prevention protocols by washing in/washing out as appropriate (i.e., alcohol or soap/water), as well as properly disinfecting, cleaning and storing equipment at the completion of a transport.
  • Verifies patient ID utilizing two patient identifiers one of which is checking the patient’s wrist band before commencing a transport.
  • Ensures serviceability of transport equipment by inspecting wheelchairs and stretchers prior to use. Completes and attaches a “Red Tag” in the event of a need for equipment repair. Informs the Dispatcher that equipment was Red Tagged.

Prior hospital experience in a similar role or prior experience in a position affecting customer satisfaction. Detail oriented, good sense of direction, time and task flexibility working under general supervision.
