Job summary

WellSpan Health in York, PA is seeking a patient transporter to support clinical operations by safely moving patients and equipment across departments. You will assist with transfers, follow safety protocols, and participate in ongoing staff education.

The role emphasizes customer service, teamwork, and efficient dispatching to ensure timely patient movement and high-quality care. Prior experience is not required, but a strong safety mindset and reliable attendance are essential.

Qualifications

• Less than 1 year of relevant experience required.
• Ability to follow established safety guidelines and use proper devices for transporting patients.
• Strong commitment to patient service and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Transports patients to and from clinical, ancillary and support areas as directed.
• Assists clinical staff in transferring patients between beds, chairs, wheelchairs or stretchers using proper body mechanics.
• Assists with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
• Performs dispatching duties by receiving transport requests, prioritizing transports, coordinating staff to minimize delays, and documenting activities.

Essential Functions:

• Transports patients to and from clinical, ancillary and support department areas as directed.
• Assists clinical personnel in transferring patients to or from beds, chairs, wheelchairs or stretchers using appropriate body mechanics to perform patient lifts.
• Assists with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.

Common Expectations:

• Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
• Participates in educational programs and inservice meetings.
• Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
• Performs dispatching duties such as receiving transport requests, dispatching available transporters based on established priorities, coordinating transports to minimize delays and maintaining appropriate documentation.
