Position Overview
Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital is seeking a Fulltime Patient Transporter to provide in‑patient transport services 11a – 8:30p rotating weekends. The role involves greeting, guiding, and transporting patients across all departments, handling transport equipment and supplies, and ensuring patient safety and comfort.
Responsibilities
- Perform patient transfer on and/or off appropriate transport equipment.
- Transport scheduled patients to all areas of the hospital; retrieve and deliver equipment, patient‑transport aids, and supplies.
- Complete cleaning tasks utilizing OSHA standards; perform maintenance and inventory of equipment.
- Monitor condition of wheelchairs and litters and initiate repair through appropriate communication channels.
- Monitor and maintain transport system and computerized transport schedules.
- Demonstrate computer skills necessary for department‑specific responsibilities.
- May need to reschedule patients and handle phone calls depending on location.
- Document accurately and timely, and report unusual situations, reactions, or conditions related to patient care to the responsible person.
- Provide basic comfort, support, and safety needs of patients.
- Act as a patient advocate, resolving family concerns through appropriate actions.
- Respond promptly to requests for assistance and complete assignments within designated shift.
- Respect patient rights and maintain strict confidentiality.
- Handle conflicts positively and maintain concern and respect for others.
- Accept accountability as an individual and as a team member for all services provided.
- Participate in on‑call responsibilities as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent GED.
- Completion of required educational requirements and formal education training; maximum supervision for initial competency.
- CPR certification required.
- Ability to prioritize work responsibilities, work independently, and communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff.
Additional Requirements
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required).

- Physical Requirements: Rarely 0‑10%, Occasionally 11‑35%, Frequently 36‑70%, Continuously 71‑100%. Body positions and movements: sit occasionally, stand continuously, walk continuously, bend occasionally, push frequently, pull frequently, kneel/squat occasionally, reach frequently, twist occasionally, balance occasionally, climb rarely. Heavy lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally, 20 lbs frequently, 10 lbs constantly. Requires vision and hearing; exposure to bio‑hazardous waste and blood‑borne pathogens.
