Job summary

Lake Charles Memorial Hospital in Lake Charles, LA, is seeking a Patient Transport Specialist to move patients and visitors between clinics and nursing units.

Under the supervision of the Patient Escort Supervisor, you will identify patients, follow safety protocols, and communicate with the care team to ensure comfort and security.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• CPR certification preferred.
• Basic computer skills.
• Effective communication and teamwork with commitment to patient service.

Responsibilities

• Transport patients and visitors to and from clinics and nursing units.
• Identify patients using two identifiers and follow hand-off policies.
• Maintain patient safety on transfer devices and use proper body mechanics.
• Communicate with patients to ensure comfort and safety during transport.
• Prioritize transport requests and assist with other duties as allowed.
• Adhere to hospital policies and route planning.

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

Under the direction of the supervisor or lead person transports patients and visitors of all ages to and from various clinics and nursing units within the hospital as requested

SUPERVISION

Reports directly to the Patient Escort Supervisor

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Adheres to LCMH policies to properly identify patients using 2 patient identifiersAdheres to hand off communication policyMaintains patient safety by correctly securing patients on transfer deviceUtilizes proper body mechanics when transporting patientsKnowledge of hospitalclinic layout and utilizes safest and most expedient route for patients deliveryMaintains direct communication with the patient while transporting to ensure patient comfort and securityPrioritizes transport requestsAssists in mail collection andor delivery when duties allowThe above statements are only meant to be a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents of this job The incumbents may be requested to perform job related tasks other than those stated in this description

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
