West Virginia is seeking an entry-level Transportation Worker 1 - Equipment Operator to perform apprentice level work in highway maintenance, bridges, and related structures. The role involves operating light trucks and various equipment, performing minor maintenance, snow plowing, and flagging traffic.
The selected applicant will enter a U.S. Department of Labor apprenticeship program and must obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six months.

The Transportation Worker 1 performs apprentice level, unskilled to semi-skilled work in the construction and maintenance of highways, bridges, and related buildings and structures. Position will be assigned as an Equipment Operator. Uses light motorized highway maintenance equipment to repair and replace concrete and bituminous road surfaces, cleans culverts, and repairs shoulders. Performs rough carpentry and builds forms. Operates various maintenance equipment. May also mow or clear bush from along roads or DOH facilities using a hand scythe or hand mower. May plow snow using a light truck. Performs related duties as required.
The selected applicant will be placed in a U.S. Department of Labor apprenticeship program. Selected applicant will be required, within 6 months of employment to obtain commercial driver's license (CDL). Progress through the apprenticeship program as well as the opportunity for advancement to a higher classification is dependent upon hours completed, proficiency in work, training completed, as well as obtaining and maintaining a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
