Job summary

National Interstate Insurance Company (NIIC) seeks an Associate Underwriter I to join our Richfield, Ohio team on a hybrid schedule. This role supports underwriting activities, collaborates with brokers and underwriters, and helps maintain policy documentation and risk evaluations.

On-site four days a week with one remote day, core in-office days Tue–Thu. Education requires an Associate degree in Business/Finance or related field, plus foundational underwriting knowledge and strong

Qualifications

• Associates Degree in Business, Finance, or a related field or equivalent experience.
• Foundational written and verbal skills; works under supervision with guidance from senior underwriters.
• Knowledge of coverage and forms for policies written within the assigned territory.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the review and evaluation of applications, ensuring they align with Company policies and underwriting guidelines.
• Gathers information with brokers/agents and clarifies application details.
• Reviews data such as financial statements, property valuations, and loss histories for risk assessment.
• Maintains underwriting files and files documents and approvals properly.
• Prepares risk evaluation reports and portfolio performance summaries for underwriters and management.
• May underwrite new and renewal policy transactions within written authority.
