Job summary

Burns & Wilcox in the United States seeks a Transportation Underwriter to grow and manage a transportation book by underwriting new business and renewing existing accounts. You will cultivate agency relationships and act as the primary contact for clients, pricing and binding risks for large or complex renewals, and developing referrals to company facilities.

The role emphasizes strategic marketing, collaborative leadership, and ongoing professional development within a hybrid work setup.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 3+ years of transportation underwriting experience required; excess & surplus preferred.
• Proven sales and relationship-building abilities.
• Insurance license, CPCU, CIC or comparable designations preferred.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Willingness to travel to foster client relationships.

Responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and grow a book of transportation business.
• Manage agency relationships and serve as lead client contact.
• Create and execute marketing plans to increase new and renewal business.
• Rate, quote and bind risks for large or complex renewals and new business.
• Develop underwriting referrals to brokerage facilities and management.
• Monitor metrics to drive renewal retention, growth, and loss ratios.
• Lead, train, and develop Assistant and Associate Underwriters.
