Job summary

Burns & Wilcox, a leading wholesale insurance broker, seeks an experienced Personal Lines Underwriter in the United States to build and grow a dedicated book of business. You will manage agency relationships, market plans, and rate/quote complex risks for new and renewal business.

The role emphasizes leadership of junior underwriters, driving client communications, and maintaining growth with a strong sales mindset and underwriting discipline.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 3+ years of personal lines underwriting experience; excess & surplus experience preferred.
• Demonstrated proficiency in sales and marketing.
• Insurance license, CPCU, CIC or comparable designations preferred.
• Interest in continued education and professional development.
• Travel may be necessary to foster strong client relationships.

Responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and grow a book of business
• Manage agency relationships and serve as lead client contact
• Create and execute marketing plan to increase new and renewal business
• Rate, quote and bind each risk to determine acceptability, coverage, and pricing for large or complex renewals as well as new business
• Develop and submit underwriting referrals to company brokerage facilities and Burns & Wilcox management
• Monitor key metrics to formulate corrective action impacting new business hit, renewal retention, premium growth, and loss ratio
• Lead, train, and develop Associate Underwriters
