Primary Purpose

To supervise the transportation department, including setup, dispatch, drivers, and scheduling, with a focus on driver-related issues. The role involves direct authority over drivers and dispatch/set-up staff, and indirect authority over the dispatch supervisor.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and coordinating delivery schedules.
• Monitor reports to meet goals regarding speed, idle time, and RPM for drivers.
• Oversee fuel consumption reports, train and coach drivers on techniques to improve MPG.
• Handle communications with retail customers regarding scheduling and load issues.
• Create driver schedules and address personnel issues.
• Supervise dispatch to ensure fair procedures and proper hours management.
• Collaborate with other departments to maintain production standards.
• Complete accident reports and manage asset inventory.
• Participate in safety review meetings and pursue operational efficiencies.
• Promote lean education and process improvements.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with TMS and related systems.
• Experience in transportation/distribution environments.
• Understanding of business financial reports.
• Knowledge of company practices and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to supervise multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication and record-keeping skills.
• Ability to work in variable temperature environments.

Preferred Requirements

• 1-3 years of distribution warehouse experience.
• High School diploma or equivalent.
