Job summary

gategroup in San Diego, CA is seeking a capable supervisor for driver and catering operations on our airline services. You will lead drivers, coordinate flights, ensure safety and compliance, and manage daily workflow to meet service standards.

The role requires 3+ years in delivery or customer service, 2+ years supervisory experience in high-volume settings, and a valid driver's license; airline industry experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Cooks ensures teams cater correct aircraft and flights.
  • Maintains safety procedures and TSA/airport badge requirements.
  • Improves unit performance with management staff.
  • Assists teams with late flights and equipment changes.
  • Updates information from airlines on service requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Ensures quality production standards are maintained for all accounts.
  • Obtains control sheets and makes assignments for team drivers to flights daily.
  • Checks dock area to ensure employees have required equipment and trucks leave according to scheduled departure.
  • Checks that all teams are catering the correct aircraft and flights.
  • Ensures all employees are in compliance with safety procedures and Airport Transport Authority badging requirements.
  • Works with management staff to improve performance of the unit.
  • Assists teams with late flights and equipment changes.
  • Gets information from airlines on service requirements and updates.
  • Maintains radio contact with Operations Manager, meal planner and leads during operation.
  • Conducts regular checks of the kitchen to ensure no equipment was left behind after flights leave the kitchen.
  • Secures and transports galleys and maintains cleanliness of vehicles.
  • Ensures safety, quality and compliance with customer specifications, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
  • Ensures specifications, airline diagrams and other standards are accurate per airline specifications.
  • Ensures all products are coded according to Gate Gourmet procedures.
  • Works with maintenance staff to ensure preventive maintenance of machinery and fleet, reporting repairs in a timely manner.
  • Maintains company policies and procedures and specification books for airline customers.
  • Maintains all financial goals related to material, productivity, overtime and labor.
  • Prepares management reports such as attendance, HAACCP and labor as required.
  • Supervises drivers and driver assistants.
  • Trains and monitors employees on proper work procedures to maximize productivity and security while minimizing labor and food costs.
  • Performs performance evaluation, coaching, counseling and prepares corrective action for employees, liaising with HR and support functions.
  • Manages workflow balancing and assignment of responsibilities and workstations on each shift.
  • Manages daily manpower planning and assigns responsibilities and workstations.
  • Determines when and whether to call employees in to cover staffing needs such as sick calls, vacation relief, medical leaves, volume changes, etc.
  • Works with department leaders to determine number of employees needed each shift.
  • Manages employee retention and monitors turnover.
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree from a 4‑year university or college preferred.
Work Experience
  • Minimum 3 years experience working as a delivery driver and/or in a customer service capacity.
  • Minimum 2 years supervisory experience in a high‑volume manufacturing, food production, restaurant or catering environment or equivalent.
  • Experience in the airline industry preferred.

Licenses & Certifications
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to pass a DMV verification process.Clean driving record with no moving violations or accidents.
  • Ability to obtain Airport Transport Authority badge and Customs Seal.
  • CDL driver’s license is a plus.
Travel
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
Physical Demands
  • Regularly stands, walks, bends, lifts and moves intermittently during shifts of 10+ hours.
  • May experience physical discomfort due to temperature and noise in a normal production kitchen facility.
  • Can lift, push, pull or maneuver 50‑75 lbs.
  • Can work outdoors 75‑80% of the time.
  • Can work at heights of about 50 feet.
  • Can work weekends and maintain a flexible schedule.
