Job summary

Veritiv Corporation is seeking a Transportation Supervisor in Phoenix, AZ, to oversee daily operations of transportation and vehicle operators. You will ensure on-time delivery, supervise staff, and optimize route execution using established procedures.

The role requires strong leadership, safety awareness, and the ability to analyze data and generate reports. A related degree is preferred and a day shift is expected in this role.

Qualifications

  • 5–10 years of related management or supervisory experience within a large organization preferred.
  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree preferred; High School Diploma/GED accepted.

Responsibilities

  • Gather and summarize data and prepare reports using Microsoft Office and other systems.
  • Lead and develop a team performing routine transportation tasks.
  • Design monthly schedules and assign work to ensure high-priority tasks are completed.
  • Promote a safety culture aligned with HS&E policies and train the team on safe working methods.

Job description

Job Purpose

Our Transportation Supervisor will be responsible for directly supervising and coordinating activities of transportation and vehicle operators.

Job Responsibilities
  • Manage on a day-to-day basis the transportation of goods and supplies using existing procedures; review and recommend improvements to procedures to ensure on-time delivery of goods and supplies.
  • Provide operational support by performing a range of route activities using existing systems and protocols.
  • Gather and summarize data and prepare documents and reports using a variety of computer applications such as Microsoft Office.
  • Supervise and lead a team performing routine work.
  • Design own monthly schedule and, if necessary, assign work to others in order to speed up office workflow and ensure high-priority tasks get done.
  • Maintain a culture of safety that follows the organization's Health, Safety and Environmental (HS&E) policies to identify and mitigate environmental risks and risks to oneself and others in the workplace. Instruct the team in safe working methods and escape serious issues as appropriate.
  • Develop knowledge and understanding of the organization's policies and procedures and of relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct to ensure own work adheres to those standards. Obtain authorization from a supervisor or manager for any exceptions from mandatory procedure.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Additional Responsibilities & Qualifications
  • Must be available to work day shift hours.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills including but not limited to performance management (employee evaluations, discipline, corrective action, coaching) and conducting interviews.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to develop proficiency with company computer system is essential.
  • Ability to motivate and develop direct reports.
  • Strong planning, organization, and customer relations' skills are required.
  • Experience and thorough understanding of warehouse, delivery, traffic operations and systems within a distribution setting, as well as government regulations (e.g., DOT, OSHA, HazMat, etc.).
  • Experience of supervising and directing people and other resources to achieve specific end results within limited timeframes.
  • Experienced practitioner able to work unsupervised.
Work Experience
  • 5-10 years of related experience of successful management or supervisory experience within a large or national organization strongly preferred.
Education
  • Associate/Bachelor's Degree Preferred
  • High School Diploma/GED
Working Conditions
  • Regularly working in outside weather conditions, exposure to extremes of temperature, visibility, wet and/or humid conditions and vibrations.
  • Exposure to loud noise.
  • Exposure to dust, mechanical hazards, moving objects, and moving vehicles.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, twist and carry 50-75 pounds, manipulate (push and pull) up to 160 pounds of product with material handling equipment, and skids weighing up to 2000 pounds utilizing pallet jack.
  • Walking/Standing - walk throughout the warehouse to complete customer orders. Stand when operating order picker or reach truck equipment and when operating cutter.
  • Sitting - sit only when driving sit-down material handling equipment.
  • Lifting - lift items weighing a few ounces up to 150 pounds with assistance.
  • Stooping - performed when filling orders or putting away products assigned to floor level locations. May bend at the waist.
  • Kneeling - kneel when filling orders or putting away products assigned to floor level locations.
