Job summary

Veritiv Corp in Port Huron, MI, is seeking a Supervisor to plan, direct and monitor day-to-day warehouse operations and lead a safety-conscious team to achieve goals and quality service. This role requires hands-on leadership to balance workloads and drive performance.

Candidates will supervise distribution center tasks, analyze metrics, and drive continuous improvement in cost efficiency and customer service while ensuring compliance with DOT/OSHA regulations.

Qualifications

  • Must be available to work 1st shift.
  • Ability to motivate a team, manage multiple projects, work under pressure and adapt to sudden changes in the workplace environment.
  • PC proficient in Windows based software programs.
  • Familiarity with mid-range and mainframe systems and Warehouse Management System (WMS) is a plus.
  • Experience and thorough understanding of warehouse, delivery, traffic operations and systems within a distribution setting, as well as government regulations (e.g., DOT, OSHA, HazMat).
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills including performance management and interviewing.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver and supervise various distribution center tasks to ensure goods are shipped, received, stored and recorded accurately.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiencies and optimize cost effectiveness.
  • Analyze warehouse metrics and prepare reports and inventory control documents.
  • Supervise and lead a team.
  • Monitor and adjust employee schedules and workloads to enhance efficiencies and ensure high-priority tasks are achieved.
  • Participate in the hiring process and management of distribution center staff.
  • Ensure the highest level of customer service is being executed and develop methods to improve service quality for employees, vendors and suppliers.
  • Motivate and hold the team accountable for achieving local and company goals.
  • Maintain a culture of safety following HS&E policies and mitigate environmental risks.
  • Prioritize workflow and ensure work meets standards and regulatory codes; use performance management systems.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Job Purpose

Our Supervisor will be responsible for planning, directing and monitoring the day-to-day operational activities for a team to ensure a competitive service advantage is achieved by maintaining a high degree of accuracy and customer service. This position will assist the facility in exceeding their financial and strategic goals by playing an active role on the leadership team. May also participate in the development and execution of business strategies with an understanding of the requirements for an effective distribution support team.


Job Responsibilities


  • Deliver and supervise various distribution center tasks to ensure all goods and supplies are shipped, received, stored and recorded accurately following established procedures.

  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiencies and optimize cost effectiveness.

  • Analyze the warehouse metrics and prepare reports and inventory control documents using Microsoft Office and existing systems.

  • Supervise and lead a team.

  • Monitor and adjust employee schedules and workloads to enhance efficiencies and ensure high-priority tasks are achieved.

  • Participate in the hiring process and management of distribution center staff.

  • Ensure the highest level of customer service is being executed and develop methods to improve the quality of service for all employees, vendors and suppliers.

  • Motivate and hold the team accountable for achieving local and company goals.

  • Maintain a culture of safety that follows the organization's Health, Safety and Environmental (HS&E) policies to identify and mitigate environmental risks and risks to oneself and others in the workplace. Instruct the team in safe working methods and elevate serious issues as appropriate.

  • Prioritize own workflow and ensure work is completed to the required standards and regulatory codes of productivity, quality and timeliness; use performance management systems to improve personal performance.

  • Perform additional duties as required.

Work Experience


  • 1-3 years of related experience of successful supervisory/management experience required to motivate and develop direct reports, as well as size up new talent.


Education


  • High School Diploma/GED

  • Associate/Bachelor's Degree Preferred


Working Conditions


  • Regularly working in a non-climate-controlled warehouse where exposure to cold, heat, damp or humid conditions may occur.

  • Exposure to loud noise.

  • Exposure to dust, mechanical hazards, moving objects, and moving vehicles.


Physical Requirements


  • Ability to lift, twist and carry 50 - 75 pounds, manipulate (push and pull) up to 160 pounds of product with material handling equipment and skids weighing up to 2,000 pounds utilizing pallet jack.

  • Walking/Standing - walk throughout the warehouse to complete customer orders. Stand when operating order picker or reach truck equipment and when operating cutter.

  • Sitting - sit only when driving sit-down material handling equipment.

  • Lifting - lift items weighing a few ounces up to 150 pounds with assistance.

  • Stooping - performed when filling orders or putting away products assigned to floor level locations. May bend at the waist.

  • Kneeling - kneel when filling orders or putting away products assigned to floor level locations.
