Job Description

Oversee the operations of the truck fleet to ensure high service levels are achieved at minimum cost. Responsible for developing accurate record-keeping methods to monitor shipments and drivers effectively.

• Maintain accurate files on vehicle use, condition, and maintenance.
• Ensure tractors and trailers are effectively utilized by developing efficient delivery schedules.
• Implement an inspection program to safeguard equipment and a maintenance program to keep it in effective operating condition.
• Recommend specifications for new equipment.
• Suggest programs to improve fleet operation to the Transportation Manager.
• Provide delivery service that meets or exceeds customer expectations.
• Direct clerical staff and drivers to achieve objectives.
• Develop and maintain a productive team through hiring, training, and professional development.
• Match employee skills to job requirements.
• Apply effective communication and motivation techniques; supervise, counsel, and discipline staff.
• Implement performance evaluation systems for promotions, wage increases, and terminations.
• Implement a driver safety program.
• Process bills of lading, ensuring proper charges.
• Establish trip reporting procedures and process reports from drivers and shipments.
• Ensure timely creation and filing of Department of Transportation reports.

Required Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
• Experience in transportation and fleet management preferred.
