Minnesota Department of Transportation seeks a Chief Inspector to oversee complex multi-phase projects, leading the inspection crew and coordinating field activities. The role requires ensuring materials meet MnDOT specifications and maintaining meticulous contract documentation.

The position involves applying enforcement procedures on the most complex projects and directing testing and reporting to support successful project completion.

Formación

• Valid Class D Driver’s License.
• Four years of experience performing roadway/bridge contract administration.
• A two-year degree or four-year degrees may substitute for one year of experience.
• Certifications in aggregate production, grading/base inspector, bituminous street, concrete field inspector, or construction installer.
• Upon hire, certification in one of grading/base inspector or concrete field inspector, with the other within 12–24 months.

This position acts as Chief Inspector on complex multi-phase or multi-operational projects, reporting to and working under the general guidance of a project engineer/principal engineer to ensure successful completion of projects. Other duties include:

• Leads inspection crew on a complex multi-phase or multi-operational project coordinating personnel and work assignments.
• Directs materials testing and performs occasional sampling and material testing in the field, analyzes test results and assures materials meet MnDOT specifications to secure certification of a construction project and determine the impact of test results and make recommendations related to materials, structural integrity for roadway and/or bridge construction projects.
• Performs highly complex inspection activities, monitors project progress, and assures all inspected work is accomplished in accordance with contract requirements.
• Performs complex documentation to record quantity and quality of materials and completes required reports in accordance with contract requirements.
• Apply enforcement procedures to the contract for the most complex projects or as referred by the Assistant Chief Inspector to ensure successful completion of projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Valid Class D Driver’s License
• Four (4) years of experience performing Contract Administration (roadway and/or bridge construction) activities or related activities.
• A Two-year Civil or Construction Technology Degree or the following four-year degrees: Architectural, Civil or Mechanical Engineering; Land Surveying / Geomatics; or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience.

• Bituminous Street
• Concrete Field Inspector
• Construction Installer

Certified in one (1) of the two (2) upon hire and the remaining with 12-24 months of hire or placement
