Job summary

Minnesota Department of Transportation is seeking an Inspector to assist the Chief Inspector on complex projects and to perform diverse field inspections. The role will involve directing inspection activities on less complex projects as needed and ensuring materials meet MnDOT standards.

The position requires experience in construction inspection, field testing of grading/base, bituminous, and concrete materials, and the ability to analyze results to verify quality per MnDOT specifications.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience performing contract administration on roadway/bridge construction.
• Substitution: one year in related areas may count for one year of contract administration.
• Educational substitution: two-year Civil/Construction Tech degree or four-year degree may substitute for one year of experience.
• Must possess a valid Class D driver's license and obtain Class B CDL within 6 months.
• Certifications: Aggregate Production, Grading & Base Tester, Bituminous Street Inspector.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Chief Inspector on complex projects and complete inspection activities.
• Serve as Chief Inspector on less complex projects.
• Perform field testing of materials and verify quality against MnDOT specs.
• Inspect roadway features for conformance to plans and specifications.
• Report deficiencies to Chief Inspector and verify corrections.

Education

Two-year Civil or Construction Technology Degree

Four-year degree in Architectural, Civil or Mechanical Engineering; Land Surveying / Geomatics

Licensure: Class D license and obtain Class B CDL within 6 months
