Job summary

Whitney ISD Whitney, TX, is seeking a Transportation Assistant to support the Transportation Department. Under the Director, you will transport students on assigned routes, perform safety inspections, and handle clerical tasks to keep operations running smoothly.

The role requires a valid CDL, ability to operate buses, effective communication, and accurate data entry. The position is full-time, on-site in Whitney, with occasional travel between district facilities as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid Class A or B CDL with PS endorsement or willing to obtain.
• Ability to pass DOT alcohol and drug tests and a physical exam.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with others.
• Ability to operate a school bus.

Responsibilities

• Operate a two-way radio for bus-to-bus and base communications.
• Operate office equipment and computer with assigned software.
• Conduct daily safety inspections of buses and white fleet.
• Operate a bus along designated routes or field trips.
• Assign and prepare vehicles for trips; ensure fuel adequacy.
• Assist in routing system to develop routes for students.
• Schedule maintenance for all vehicles; order parts for shop.
• Perform clerical/secretarial tasks and greet visitors.
• Input data into the assigned computer system.
• Travel between schools or to central offices as needed.
