Job summary

Freese and Nichols, Inc. is seeking a Transportation Project Manager to lead roadway design and management for Central Texas projects in Austin or San Antonio.

The role focuses on delivering transportation solutions for public clients, leveraging extensive roadway experience and leadership to drive successful outcomes. The candidate will manage client relationships, oversee engineering deliverables, and mentor junior staff while benefiting from a hybrid work arrangement and strong professional

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or comparable engineering or applied science degree)
  • 8+ years of experience in roadway design
  • 2+ years of progressive project management experience
  • Texas Professional Engineering license
  • Strong technical skills in roadway and drainage design
  • Experience with MicroStation and Open Roads/Open Roads Designer

Responsibilities

  • Needs Assessment: Uncover emerging issues or needs, identifying potential causes, barriers, and key stakeholders, as well as related issues.
  • Engineering Deliverables and Solutions Design: Oversee details and deliverables of an entire project and delegate tasks to group to execute.
  • Engineering Quality: Oversee the quality of work being done on projects. Monitor the QA and QC actives of others to ensure that work is being delivered to the highest technical quality. May sever as QC reviewer or Senior Advisor on projects.
  • Continuous Improvement/Innovation: Serve as Senior Advisor on projects. Lead brainstorming meetings to discover innovative ideas and approaches on projects. Help PMs to think with a CI mindset.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Develop stakeholder engagement by finding out their needs, issues and concerns; and by reacting to these needs, issues and concerns to support the communication of business information and decisions.
  • Client and Customer Management: Manage strategic client and customer relationships.
  • Sales Opportunities Creation: Develop and strengthen relationships with key client contacts to identify emerging needs and position the firm for future project opportunities.
  • Customer Needs Clarification: Prepare for and lead client-specific conversations to uncover project drivers, technical and strategic priorities, and upcoming needs. Engage technical subject matter experts as appropriate to ensure that insights and client preferences are shared across pursuit teams to inform strategy and positioning.
