Job summary

Freese and Nichols, Inc. is seeking an experienced Transportation Engineer to join our Central Texas Team in Austin or San Antonio. You will support multiple municipal, county, and TxDOT projects, applying design standards and data-driven analysis to deliver quality roadway and drainage solutions.

You will lead project tasks, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with clients to ensure timely, accurate deliverables while upholding our LEADS values and commitment to employee development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Transportation engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the state of Texas OR ability to obtain the license within 6 months.
  • 6+ years of experience of roadway design.
  • Preferred: Experience using MicroStation and Open Roads Designer.
  • Familiar with concepts and standards of the MUTCD, HCM and AASHTO Geometric Design.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate within a project team setting.
  • Strong technical skills in roadway and drainage design.
  • Experience in working on or with the Texas Department of Transportation and understanding their design requirements and/or LGPP Projects.

Responsibilities

  • Support transportation projects for municipal, county, and TxDOT clients to improve the community.
  • Utilize criteria and design standards to perform engineering tasks related to project development.
  • Interface with clients and develop strong working relationships through project interaction.
  • Provide direction to drafting and design personnel and coordinate activities for efficient completion of work.
  • Gather, correlate, and utilize raw data for project reviews.
  • Perform calculations and analyses for assigned projects.
  • Oversee and review the work of CAD technicians, entry-level engineers and interns.
  • Complete expert design activities meeting established criteria and design manuals.
  • Supervise timely and accurate completion of design plans, specifications, reports and studies.
  • Provide quality control on deliverables and Continuous Improvement input.
  • Share expertise by guiding and training junior engineers.

Job description

Freese and Nichols is searching for an experienced Transportation Engineer to join our Central Texas Team in Austin or San Antonio. You will serve as a project engineer supporting projects related to transportation. As a Transportation Engineer you will:

  • Work for numerous clients in the Central Texas area including municipalities, counties, and TxDOT helping to improve the community we live in.
  • Utilize criteria and design standards to perform engineering tasks related to project development.

  • Provide direction and instruction to drafting and design personnel assigned to projects and coordinate these activities for efficient completion of work.

  • Perform calculations and analyses necessary to complete assigned projects.
  • Oversee and review the work of CAD technicians/designers, entry-level engineers and interns.
  • Complete expert design activities that meet requirements of established criteria and applicable design manuals.
  • Supervisor the timely and accurate completion of design plans, specifications reports and studies.
  • Performs quality control on deliverables and provides Continuous Improvement input.
  • Share your expertise and passion by guiding and training junior engineers.
  • Help us build the next generation of transportation professionals.
