Job summary

Maryland Department of Transportation's State Highway Administration District 5 (Anne Arundel County) is recruiting for a Project Engineer (Transportation Engineering Technician IV). The incumbent will act as a project engineer on road/bridge construction projects, supervise inspections, and mentor junior technicians, ensuring accurate documentation and progress estimates.

Strong reports and construction practices knowledge are preferred.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited high school or possess a high school equivalency certificate.
Two and a half (2.5) years of experience must involve construction and/or inspection of transportation infrastructure projects.
Applicants may substitute education in civil engineering for experience at 30 semester credit hours per year of experience.
An associate's degree in engineering, construction management, surveying, or surveying technology meets two years of the required experience.

Responsibilities

Serve as Project Engineer on a medium size or moderately complex road or bridge construction project.
Function as a permit inspector, issuing and inspecting utility, district office, residential access, commercial access, lane closure, and retrofit sidewalk permits.
Direct and monitor documentation of the construction process and ensure files are current and progress estimates are accurate.
Instruct and mentor lower-level technicians in plan reading, inspection methods, and materials testing.
