Overview

The Agency of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Operations Technician I. This position will work on the bridge/sign crew. In the winter months, this position will also assist with plowing and salting, and overtime may be required. Additionally, this position may assist in vehicle and equipment maintenance.

Duties require working in extreme outdoor weather conditions. All employees may be required to report to work outside of their area/work schedule and must be reachable by phone. Dangers are present when work is performed near heavy equipment, hazardous materials, and roadside litter. Employees may be exposed to blood and airborne pathogens. Hazards are always present when working on the roads as traffic passes, during emergencies such as floods, ice, snow, or hazardous materials. An incumbent must be able to use tools and equipment commonly used for maintenance work and lift materials used in maintenance. Participation in a random drug and alcohol-testing program is required prior to operation of vehicles or equipment. Considerable overtime work is required, particularly during winter months, and is a condition of employment.

Minimum Qualifications

No education or experience required. Applicants must be at least 18 years old.

Preferred Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Special Requirements

A valid driver's license is required.

Incumbent must live within reasonable proximity of assigned workstation. Possession of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required for the successful completion of original probation. Incumbent must complete all VTTC required coursework within six months or be enrolled.
