Stoughton, MA

Salary: $73,000-$75,000 annually
Bonus: Annual performance bonus potential
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Service Area: Stoughton Public Schools

First Student is looking for an experienced transportation leader to take ownership of our Stoughton operation. This highly visible leadership position is responsible for keeping daily service safe, efficient, and on time while building a strong team and maintaining a successful partnership with Stoughton Public Schools.

As Transportation Manager, you will lead the people and processes behind the operation. You will oversee route performance, staffing, safety, customer service, fleet readiness, and financial results. When unexpected challenges arise, your team will look to you for clear direction and practical solutions.

What You'll Do
  • Lead the daily transportation operation serving Stoughton Public Schools
  • Directly supervise, coach, and develop drivers, monitors, dispatchers, and office staff
  • Ensure routes are fully staffed, properly scheduled, and operating safely and on time
  • Respond to service disruptions and make real-time decisions to keep the operation moving
  • Build employee engagement, accountability, recognition, and retention
  • Maintain a strong working relationship with school district leaders and customer contacts
  • Address service concerns and provide timely, practical solutions
  • Manage operational expenses and explain budget variances
  • Monitor location performance and identify opportunities to improve safety, service, and efficiency
  • Manage injury and collision claims
  • Ensure employees follow company safety practices and all applicable regulations
  • Ensure facilities and buses meet First Student safety and environmental standards
  • Minimize route times and mileage while meeting contractual and regulatory requirements
  • Provide accurate and timely operational and financial reporting to regional leadership and Finance
  • Ensure purchases follow company policies and approval processes
  • Partner closely with Safety and Maintenance to support fleet readiness and operational compliance
What You'll Bring
  • At least three years of transportation leadership or management experience
  • Previous leadership experience in student transportation, public transit, logistics, delivery, fleet operations, or a similar transportation environment
  • Four-year degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Experience leading frontline employees in a fast-paced operation
  • Strong understanding of route coverage, scheduling, staffing, safety, and service performance
  • Ability to make sound decisions when priorities or service needs change
  • Experience managing budgets, reviewing performance data, and explaining financial results
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and presentation skills
  • Ability to build productive relationships with employees, customers, and community partners
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and provide additional support when operationally necessary
