Job summary

The State of South Carolina seeks a Project Inspector to supervise and document construction activities on state and federal projects in the Aiken area. This role requires precise interpretation of plans, specifications, and related documents to ensure compliance with project and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities include field inspections across highway and bridge projects, coordination with QA teams, and timely preparation of diaries, reports, and required records.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and four and one-half (4.5) years of progressively responsible engineering technician related experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Acts as a Project Inspector on multiple construction projects for Aiken Construction.
• Monitors assigned projects and ensures compliance with plans and specifications for both state and federal projects.
• Interprets plans, contract documents, permits, and related documents to ensure adherence to requirements.
• Prepares daily diaries, weekly and monthly reports, and logs in SCDOT systems (AWP, ProjectWise).
• Coordinates with QA team and District Asphalt Manager for additional testing.
• Performs field tests and collects material samples for OM R testing and review.
• Maintains and records notes, calculations, stationing, quantities, and other data for inspections.
• Inspects activities across highway and bridge construction, including traffic control, erosion control, and environmental aspects.
