The State Highway Administration's (SHA) District 3 (Prince George's County) is currently recruiting for a Transportation Engineering Technician IV position. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum qualifications listed below. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies in this classification.
The primary responsibility of this position is to administer the daily operations of various types of maintenance contracts such as litter removal, roadway sweeping, maintenance of traffic, mowing, brush and tree removal, temporary labor, herbicide application, and graffiti removal throughout Prince George’s County, accomplished by performing on‑site inspections to ensure compliance with contract specifications and SHA standards.
This consists of identifying, compiling, prioritizing, and directing all repair and maintenance activities through the utilization of contractors. This position requires the highest level of professional experience to ensure daily repair and maintenance operations are carried out correctly, safely, in accordance with standards and specifications, and promptly, with minimal impact on the traveling public.
Other duties of this role include resolving issues between contractors and specifications; reviewing and approving the contractor’s monthly invoices; monitoring contract expenditures daily; maintaining all contract files, payment records, correspondence, material reports, and contract documents; obtaining all required lane closure permits; investigating customer concerns and advising on responses to all citizen concerns related to repair and maintenance contractors assigned to the Laurel Shop; and assisting in snow monitoring during winter emergency operations.

The State Highway Administration (SHA) has been named a Training magazine Training Awards winner for the seventh consecutive year.
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Five (5) years of experience in technical engineering related work in the areas of design, traffic, construction, materials testing, engineering surveys, maintenance, or planning.
Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Maryland.
