The State of South Carolina is seeking a qualified engineer to manage moderate complexity highway and bridge construction projects. The role supervises inspectors, reviews technical reports, and coordinates inspection requirements with project engineers and technicians.
Responsibilities include QA/QC monitoring, public and stakeholder meetings, training staff, and assisting in project closeout on major initiatives. EPMS reviews and field sampling are required as part of daily duties.
Manages projects of moderate complexity. Supervises inspectors in all phases of highway and bridge construction projects. Reviews reports, estimates, and final plans produced by subordinates. Coordinates project inspection requirements with project engineers and chief technician. Monitors project QA/QC, erosion control and traffic control activities on projects for compliance with policies, procedures and plans. Meets with general public, contractor personnel, utility companies, city and county officials as necessary while representing the department. Trains subordinates and assists RCE in project closeout duties. Assists project engineers on major projects with project management duties. Reviews and prepares daily diaries, monthly construction estimates, and final plans on construction projects. Performs project inspection and survey duties as needed. Takes samples and/or supervises others in sampling materials used by the contractor to ensure accordance with specifications. Conducts EPMS reviews. Performs other related duties as assigned.
A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and one (1) year of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
Normal forty (40) hour week. May occasionally work extended hours (emergencies/hazardous weather). Should have the capability to stand and work for long periods and trek over rough terrain. Must be able to stand, bend, squat, stoop and have good balance. Must be able to work in hazardous conditions such as weather and traffic.
A motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
