Job summary

The State of South Carolina is seeking a supervisor to manage moderate complexity highway and bridge construction projects. You will supervise inspectors, review reports and final plans, and coordinate inspection requirements with project engineers and chief technician.

You will monitor QA/QC, erosion and traffic control to ensure compliance with policies and plans, meet with public and officials, and train subordinates while assisting in project closeout duties and major project management

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and one year of engineering or construction management work experience, or an approved acceptable equivalence.

Responsibilities

• Review and prepare daily diaries, monthly construction estimates, and final plans on construction projects.
• Perform project inspection and survey duties as needed.
• Take samples and supervise others in sampling materials to ensure conformity with specifications.

Meets with general public, contractor personnel, utility companies, city and county officials as necessary while representing the department. Trains subordinates and assists RCE in project closeout duties. Assists project engineers on major projects with project management duties. Reviews and prepares daily diaries, monthly construction estimates, and final plans on construction projects. Performs project inspection and survey duties as needed. Takes samples and/or supervises others in sampling materials used by the contractor to ensure accordance with specifications. Conducts EPMS reviews. Performs other related duties as assigned.

A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and one (1) year of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.

Physical Requirement: Normal forty (40) hour week. May occasionally work extended hours (emergencies/hazardous weather). Should have the capability to stand and work for long periods and trek over rough terrain. Must be able to stand, bend, squat, stoop and have good balance. Must be able to work in hazardous conditions such as weather and traffic. A motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
