Job summary

DGL Consulting Engineers, LLC is seeking a Civil Engineer specializing in roadway design to strengthen our Roadway Department. The role involves plan prep, drainage, pavement and cost estimation tasks, with opportunities to engage with clients and junior staff.

Candidates should have 4–8 years of civil design experience and a path toward PE licensure. Work will be in a fast-paced environment with DOT and local agency standards.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• PE license preferred or EI with ability to obtain PE within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Assist roadway team with production duties: plan preparation, design detailing, drainage calculations and reports, bid documents and cost estimates.
• Design tasks may include pavement design, horizontal/vertical design, drainage and BMP design, quantity and construction cost determination.
• Participate in client meetings, respond to RFIs and assist in proposal preparation.
• Assist with oversight of entry level engineers and budgeting of tasks.
• Assist with calculations and record keeping; inform supervisor of key issues.
• Coordinate with engineers on project requirements and ensure compliance with DOT/local standards.
• Apply design standards, drawings, and CAD requirements for DOT and local agencies.
• Engage in industry events and related marketing activities.

POSITION INFORMATION

DGL is looking for a Civil Engineer to enhance the capabilities and qualifications of our Roadway Department. As a multi-disciplinary engineering firm, success in this position will require an individual to use prescribed methods, standard techniques and practices to perform various engineering assignments. Our goal is to provide an environment for engineering professionals to learn, grow and master necessary skills to succeed in a fast-paced and challenging environment.

• Will work in the roadway department
• 4-8 years of previous experience in civil design engineering
• Full-time position

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist roadway team with production duties such as plan preparation, design detailing, drainage calculations and reports, bid documents and cost estimates
• Design tasks may include pavement design, horizontal and vertical design, closed and open drainage system design and BMP design, quantity and construction cost determination
• Involvement in client meetings, responses to RFI’s and assisting in proposal preparation
• Assist with the oversight of entry level engineers and budgeting of work tasks
• Assists with calculations, record keeping
• Keeps direct supervisor promptly informed of key/significant issues or concerns
• Communicate with leaders for understanding of project scope and coordinate with engineers on project requirements
• Applies design standards, standard drawings, and CAD requirements for DOT and local agencies
• Engage in periodic industry events and related marketing activities

SKILL SET

• Experience with applicable computer software (Open Roads Designer, ProjectWise, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Office, Bluebeam)
• Design and plan preparation experience based on DOT and other municipality’s specifications and preferred standards
• Exceptional written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work and balance priorities amongst multiple projects
• Outgoing, self-motivated, collaborative team player
• Proven success in delivering high quality project submittals

• Overtime hours may also be requested dependent on project workloads and submittal deadlines

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from ABET Accredited Institution
• Registered Professional Engineer (PE) preferred or Engineering Intern (E.I.) certification with the ability to obtain PE License within 6 months
