Job summary

Ardurra is seeking a Transportation Project Engineer to lead the planning, design, and delivery of highway and local roadway projects for public-sector clients. The role emphasizes technical contribution in roadway design and coordination across disciplines, with assignments in Salt Lake City, Boise, Spokane, or Coeur d’Alene.

The ideal candidate has a PE license or ability to obtain within six months, 5–15+ years of roadway experience, and proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and ORD.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering is required.
• PE license is required or ability to obtain within 6 months if licensed in another state.
• 5–15+ years of transportation/roadway engineering design experience.
• Experience with roadway design software and plan development.

Responsibilities

• Lead or support geometric design of highways, arterials, and local roadways.
• Prepare PS&E—detailed construction plans, specs, and cost estimates.
• Develop horizontal/vertical alignments and cross sections.
• Coordinate drainage design and roadway grading.
• Create 3D roadway models and plan sets with design software.
• Collaborate with traffic, drainage, utilities, geotech, and structures teams.
• Ensure compliance with AASHTO, MUTCD, DOT standards.
• Support client coordination, scheduling, and task management.
• Review plans and calculations for QA and standards adherence.
• Provide construction support including RFIs and field coordination.

This role focuses on the planning, design, and delivery of highway and local roadway projects for public sector clients including state DOTs, counties, and municipalities. The ideal candidate is a strong technical contributor with experience in roadway design and a passion for delivering high-quality infrastructure solutions that improve mobility, safety, and community connectivity. Position is available out of Salt Lake City Utah, Boise Idaho, Spokane Washington or Coeur d’Alene Idaho.

• Prepare detailed construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates (PS&E)
• Develop horizontal and vertical alignments, typical sections, and cross sections
• Perform drainage design coordination and grading tied to roadway improvements
• Utilize design software to produce 3D roadway models and plan sets
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including traffic, drainage, utilities, geotechnical, and structures
• Ensure designs comply with AASHTO, MUTCD, and applicable state/local DOT standards
• Support client coordination, project scheduling, and task management
• Review plans and calculations for quality assurance and adherence to standards
• Provide construction support, including RFIs, submittal reviews, and field coordination

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
• Professional Engineer (PE) license (required or ability to obtain within 6 months if already licensed in another state)
• 5-15+ years of experience in transportation/roadway engineering design
• Proficiency in roadway design software including:
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Bentley OpenRoads Designer (ORD)
• Experience developing plan & profile sheets, cross sections, and corridor models
• Strong understanding of AASHTO design guidelines and state DOT standards
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced consulting environment
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working on DOT-funded or municipal roadway projects
• Familiarity with additional tools such as:
  • MicroStation
  • Bluebeam
  • Synchro or traffic analysis tools (a plus)
  • GIS applications (ArcGIS)
• Experience with stormwater design and roadway drainage integration
• Knowledge of utility coordination and right-of-way considerations
• Prior experience serving as task lead or deputy project manager
• Master’s degree in Civil Engineering (nice to have)

Salary

$95,000 - $150,000
