Job summary

Burgess & Niple seeks a Transportation Engineer, PE, in Akron to lead roadway design from preliminary through final plans, mentoring staff and owning quality, schedule and budget. You will work with DOTs, counties and cities, engaging clients and representing the firm at industry events to drive growth and leadership opportunities.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited BS in Civil Engineering required.
• PE registration in the state of employment or reciprocity.
• 4–10 years of transportation design experience for state/municipal clients.
• Proficiency in MS Office, MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with proactive problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Complete design tasks for highway, roadway, streets, traffic & safety projects for DOT and local agencies.
• Develop unique and complex solutions to highway/traffic problems for projects and pursuits.
• Prepare specifications, cost estimates, and reports for rural and urban projects from low volume roads to major freeways and interchanges.
• Create an exemplary client experience throughout project delivery.
• Maintain quality control of work products and complete projects on time and within budget.
• Collaborate with engineers and leaders across the firm on project pursuits and technical challenges.
• Provide training, coaching, and mentoring for developing staff.

As a Transportation Engineer, PE, you'll apply your technical expertise across the full project lifecycle, from preliminary engineering and design through final plan development, while mentoring developing staff and taking ownership of quality, schedule, and budget. What You’ll Do

• As part of the project team, complete design tasks for highway, roadway, streets, traffic & safety, pedestrian or bike trail projects for DOT and local agencies
• Developing unique and complex solutions to highway/traffic problems for projects and pursuits
• Prepare specifications, cost estimates, and reports for a variety of rural and urban projects from low volume roadways to major freeways and complex interchanges
• Create an exemplary client experience throughout project delivery
• Maintain quality control of the work products and successfully complete projects on time and within budget
• Collaborate with engineers and leaders across the firm on project pursuits and technical challenges
• Provide training, coaching, and mentoring for developing staff

Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited program required
• Professional Engineer (PE) registration in the state of employment, or ability to be registered with reciprocity
• 4 – 10 years of related transportation design experience for state and municipal transportation clients
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
• Adaptable and self-motivated with an entrepreneurial mindset as well as a proactive approach to problem solving
