Job summary

Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. (AMT) seeks a Transportation Engineer Intern for our Herndon, VA office for spring/summer 2027. This paid internship runs May through August 2027 with potential to become a Full-Time Junior Engineer after graduation.

You will work under Project Managers and team leaders, gaining hands-on experience and mentorship. Minimum requirements include pursuing a civil/transportation engineering degree, a 3.0+ GPA, and strong communication, problem-solving, and MS Office

• Minimum GPA of 3.0 and strong verbal/written communication.

Responsibilities

• Support project tasks, regulatory reviews, cost estimates and procurement support.
• Perform data entry, management, evaluation, and presentation.
• Assist in preparation of reports, plans, and specifications for clients.
• May work on field assignments as needed.
• Receive mentorship from leaders and teammates; contribute to team goals.

Job description

Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. (AMT) is seeking a highly motivated and diverse Transportation Engineer Intern (STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) to join us in our Herndon, VA office for the 2027 internship period. This is a paid full-time position with anticipated duration from May through August 2027 (flexible) and has the potential to transition into a Full-Time Junior Engineer Role upon graduation. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Project Managers and Team Leaders with partnerships with other engineering staff.

As an active, socially responsible, and tight-knit community, we are looking for top talent to join us in our Herndon, VA office.

Responsibilities

• Support various project tasks including regulatory requirements/reviews, cost estimates, research, procurement support, etc.;
• Perform data entry, management, evaluation, and presentation;
• Support the preparation of reports, plans, and specifications for clients;
• May work on field assignments as needed;
• Will be supported by leaders, mentors, and teammates; and
• Perform other related duties and responsibilities as necessary

Minimum Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old;
• Pursuing Bachelor or Associates Degree in Civil/Transportation Engineering or related field;
• Minimum GPA of 3.0;
• Has excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• Possesses solid technical and problem-solving skills;
• Self-motivated, detail oriented person;
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Power Point); and
• Honest, fun, hard-working and ready to learn and grow
• Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with engineering software applications (AutoCAD, MathCAD, Bentley Microstation, etc.) is preferred but not required
