Job summary

KLJ is seeking a Transportation Engineer II to support planning, design, and delivery of transportation infrastructure across Colorado, including work for CDOT, municipalities, counties, and regional agencies. You will contribute to roadway, highway, multimodal, and rehabilitation projects, advancing toward PE licensure with growing technical ownership.

The role emphasizes coordination with agencies, adherence to standards, and durable, safer mobility solutions in a dynamic growth environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or closely related discipline.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • 1–5 years of relevant transportation experience.
  • Active pursuit of PE licensure encouraged and supported.
  • Familiarity with CDOT design manuals and AASHTO standards.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, analyze project data including field surveys, GIS, subsurface utilities, geotechnical reports, and traffic data.
  • Support design and development of transportation infrastructure per CDOT standards and federal/local requirements.
  • Assist with geometric roadway design, drainage, traffic control plans, and corridor improvements.
  • Prepare technical reports, calculations, quantities, specifications, and construction docs.
  • Coordinate with CDOT, local agencies, and regulatory authorities through project development and permitting.
  • Assist in PS&E package preparation and design quality control processes.
  • Participate in risk identification, constructability reviews, and field visits.
