Position Overview

The Wharton Area Office is seeking a motivated individual to fill the position of Transportation Engineer I, II, or III. This role offers valuable experience in project management, construction methods for roadways and bridges, contract administration, and dispute resolution. Position Details
  • Salary Range: $65,104 - $129,430 annually
  • Work Location: Wharton Area Engr/Maint Sect, 1512 FM 102, Wharton, 77488
  • Travel: Yes, up to 10%
  • Shift: Day
  • Location Flexibility: Onsite
Responsibilities
  1. Assist in overseeing construction project traffic control plans and review traffic devices with Area Engineers.
  2. Manage contracts, issue work orders, and monitor schedules, payments, and progress.
  3. Conduct pre-construction meetings and ensure contractor compliance with plans and specifications.
  4. Review shop drawings, plans, estimates, and change orders.
  5. Enforce TxDOT Safety Culture.
  6. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Levels of Responsibility
Transportation Engineer II
  • Assist with contract administration and oversee traffic control plans and contract issues.
Transportation Engineer III
  • Evaluate project progress and apply project management principles to complex projects.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science.
  • Experience: 4 years for Engineer II, 5 years for Engineer III, 6 years for Engineer IV in transportation or related engineering.
  • Licenses: Valid driver’s license, Professional Engineer license (or must obtain within 6 months if licensed elsewhere), and additional certifications if applicable.
Knowledge and Attributes
  • Understanding of construction policies, traffic control, negotiation, and engineering principles.
  • Ability to monitor project status, use computer systems, and maintain professional relationships.
  • Logical reasoning and decision-making skills.
Physical and Work Conditions
  • Environmental conditions, hazards, lifting requirements, and physical demands are specified.
  • Pre-employment physical and drug testing required.
