Job Description - Transportation Engineer I, II, or III - Wharton Area Office (2501236)

Position Overview

The Wharton Area Office seeks a motivated individual for the position of Transportation Engineer I, II, or III. The role involves gaining experience in project management, construction methods for roadways and bridges, problem resolution, contract administration, change order evaluations, and dispute resolution. Job Responsibilities
  1. Assist in overseeing construction traffic control plans and review traffic devices with Area Engineers.
  2. Manage contracts, issue work orders, and monitor construction schedules and payments.
  3. Conduct pre-construction meetings and ensure contractor compliance with plans and specifications.
  4. Review shop drawings, plans, and change requests.
  5. Enforce TxDOT safety culture.
  6. Perform additional assigned duties.
Additional Responsibilities by Level
  • Transportation Engineer II: Support contract administration, oversee traffic control plans, and analyze contract issues.
  • Transportation Engineer III: Assess project progress, utilize project management principles for complex projects.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related science.
  • Experience: 4 years for Level II, 5 years for Level II, 6 years for Level III in transportation or related engineering fields.
  • Licenses: Valid driver’s license, Professional Engineer license, and additional certifications if applicable.
Knowledge and Attributes
  • Knowledge of construction policies, traffic control, negotiation, engineering principles, project monitoring, and safety.
  • Logical reasoning, decision-making, and effective communication skills.
Physical and Work Conditions
  • Subject to environmental conditions, hazards, and physical demands including lifting and walking.
  • Pre-employment physical and drug testing required.
