Job summary

Baxter & Woodman Inc. seeks an entry-level Transportation Engineer to join our Bannockburn, Chicago O’Hare, Crystal Lake, Naperville, or Mokena, IL offices. You will work on design and construction engineering for a variety of transportation projects.

The role provides hands-on experience with roadway and utility design using Civil3D or Bentley OpenRoads Designer, plus drainage and traffic studies, state, county, and local client engagement, and team-based project delivery.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Civil Engineering is required.
• Internship/co-op in transportation projects is a plus.
• Ability to travel within Baxter & Woodman’s service area.

Responsibilities

• Design roadway, underground utility, and infrastructure improvements using Civil3D or Bentley OpenRoads Designer.
• Conduct drainage, traffic, and various engineering studies.
• Provide general civil engineering services for municipal, county, and state clients.
• Prepare engineering plans and specs using IDOT standards.
• Process Federal Aid Phase I and II projects for a variety of clients.
• Assist with construction engineering services for municipal, county and state clients.
• Support project engineers and managers with diverse tasks for project delivery.

About the role, Your Impact

Baxter & Woodman has a rewarding opportunity for an entry-level Transportation Engineer in our Bannockburn, Chicago O’Hare, Crystal Lake, Naperville, or Mokena, IL office. This position will primarily consist of design and construction engineering efforts on a variety of transportation projects for State, County, and Local Agencies. This team-orientated position will include working with Baxter & Woodman’s diverse disciplines and offices.

What your day-to-day will look like, what you will learn on the job

• Design Roadway, Underground Utility, and Infrastructure improvements using Bentley OpenRoads Designer or Civil 3D.
• Conduct drainage, traffic, and various engineering studies.
• Complete general civil engineering services for municipal, county and state clients.
• Complete engineering plans and specifications using IDOT Standards.

• Assist with construction engineering services for municipal, county and state clients.
• Assist project engineers and managers with a wide variety of tasks required for project delivery.

Education Requirement

• B.S. degree in Civil Engineering

Preferred Qualifications

• Relevant internship/co-op experience with municipal or highway agency transportation projects.
• Anticipated F.E. (Fundamentals of Engineering) certification.
• Knowledge of designing roadway and underground improvements with Civil3D or Bentley OpenRoads Designer.
• Experience with Geopak.

Compensation

The pay range for this role is $74,000 to $77,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, and certifications.
