Job summary

Horrocks is seeking a Transportation Engineer to design and analyze freeways, interstates, urban and rural roadways, and shared-use trails. You will prepare studies, reports, and cost estimates while coordinating with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver projects.

The role requires a PE license, 8+ years in transportation, and proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D; hydraulics and traffic experience are a plus. Growth paths include management, technical specialization, or a mix of both.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• 8+ years of experience in plan preparation procedures and standards.
• 8+ years of experience in Transportation.
• Professional Civil Engineering certification (P.E.).
• Knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and related software used in transportation engineering.
• Hydraulics and traffic experience is a plus.

What are the core responsibilities for the role?

• Design and analysis of freeways, interstate highways, interchanges, urban and rural roadways, and shared-use trails
• Prepare studies, reports, plans, specifications, and cost estimates for a wide variety of transportation projects
• Coordinate and work with a team of project managers, design engineers, technicians, and support staff to successfully complete a variety of projects
• Lead a project team consisting of engineers, designers, and field personnel involved in the design, modification, analysis, and constructability of water systems
• Coordinate and conduct meetings with project stakeholders
• Coordinate with office management and other project managers to share resources
• Assist in proposal preparation including oral presentations. Also prepare the scope, schedule, and budget for new projects
• Interface with clients including state and local agencies
• Work on challenging assignments that include investigating, troubleshooting, and solving a wide variety of engineering and construction-related issues
• Prepare, review, and/or approve proposals, contracts, or cost estimates
• Negotiate revisions, changes, and additions to contractual agreements with sub-consultants, and clients
• Lead efforts to ensure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time, and within budget.
• Coordinate design activities to ensure installation and operations will comply with specifications, codes, and client requirements
• Prepare reports and studies that present technical information in a clear and concise manner and meet client requirements
• Perform independent reviews of work performed by others including calculations and drawing preparation
• Take ownership of projects from start to finish

Qualifications, Skills, And Competencies

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university
• 8+ years experience with plan preparation procedures and standards
• 8+ years experience in Transportation
• Professional Civil Engineering certification (P.E.)
• Knowledge and experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, and other applicable software common to the field of transportation engineering
• Hydraulics and traffic experience is a plus
• Excellent written and oral communication skills Willingness to work on projects locally or in workshare with other offices
• Possess a proven history of meeting project deadlines and budgets
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with clients, staff, and management
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented professional with strong organizational skills
• A desire to grow personally and professionally with each project while working in a team environment to create designs and drawings supporting our client's overall project goal
