CJE SeniorLife in Evanston, IL is seeking a part-time Transportation Driver to operate paratransit and agency vehicles, transporting clients safely on scheduled routes during daylight hours and in varying weather conditions. Routes are scheduled M-F mornings and afternoons with potential daytime expansions.

You will verify passenger needs, assist with boarding, maintain records, and follow agency safety policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Valid State of Illinois driver's license with acceptable driving record.
• CPR/First Aid certification required.
• Ability to follow DOT physical and agency requirements.

Responsibilities

• Drive CJE vehicles on scheduled routes following safety protocols.
• Assist passengers with boarding and exiting, including mobility needs.
• Maintain schedules, logs, and incident reports timely and accurately.
• Communicate with passengers and office staff to ensure reliable transportation.

• Schedule: Scheduled routes during daylight with no evening or weekend hours; M-F, 7:30am-9:30am & 2:30pm-4:30pm, opportunity for expanded hours during the day.
• Location: Zoller/Kalpan Families Center for Cognitive Services
• Work arrangement: On-site, vehicle-based position
• Travel: Frequent local travel throughout the assigned service area in CJE vehicles
• Union status: Dues-paying membership in Service Employees International Union Local 73 is a condition of employment
• Application requirement: Valid State of Illinois driver's license and a driving record meeting CJE's Driver Evaluation Policy

What You'll Do

• Drives CJE vehicles, including paratransit vehicles, to transport clients and other designated passengers according to scheduled routes, traffic laws, and agency requirements.
• Operates vehicle lifts, fire extinguishers, and other safety and emergency equipment properly and safely.
• Operates vehicles safely during daylight and evening hours and in changing weather and road conditions, including wet, icy, and windy conditions.
• Assists passengers with boarding and exiting vehicles, including individuals with varying mobility and support needs.
• Assists passengers with shopping bags and other belongings.
• Secures all passengers and mobility devices properly using appropriate seat belts, wheelchair restraints, and other vehicle safety equipment.
• Lifts, carries, and transports safety-restraint equipment, packages, materials, and assistive devices as required for transportation services.
• Communicates effectively with passengers and office staff, recognizes individual passenger needs, and provides considerate, attentive, and reassuring service.
• Maintains accurate, timely records, including daily schedules, mileage logs, vehicle inspection forms, passenger sign-in sheets, and incident or accident reports.
• Completes required forms and written documentation in accordance with agency and applicable state requirements.
• Reports relevant passenger information to management; attends department and other assigned meetings and participates in transportation coordination.
• Communicates by telephone when necessary, including when immediate assistance is unavailable.
• Wears and maintains the required uniform in accordance with agency policy.
• Keeps vehicles clean, orderly, and safe; promptly reports changes in vehicle condition and needed mechanical repairs to management.
• Safely uses appropriate cleaning supplies and equipment to sweep, wipe, sanitize, and remove litter from vehicle interiors.
• Transports agency staff on agency business as directed.

What You'll Bring

Required qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 21 years of age.
• Valid State of Illinois driver's license and driving record meeting CJE's Driver Evaluation Policy, including motor vehicle record review.
• Continued eligibility under CJE's driver evaluation standards and the requirements of the agency insuring CJE vehicles.
• Compliance with applicable Department of Transportation physical examination requirements upon hire and state examination or recertification requirements, when applicable.
• Compliance with CJE policies and applicable federal drug and alcohol testing requirements.
• Ability to remain patient and work effectively under stress.
• Current CPR/First Aid certification.

Preferred qualifications

• Knowledge of the service area.
• Paratransit experience.
