Job description

Our Transportation Creative Studio Planners bring ideas to life. Serving as partners to clients and project managers, they develop creative strategies for projects and guide entry‑level Creative Studio Planners to implement these ideas. If you are passionate about transportation and enjoy transforming complex analysis into inspiring visuals, we want to hear from you. This position is available at either our Roseville or Sacramento location, so let us know your preference when applying.

Transportation analysis is complex, and clients and communities may not be experts in the technical aspects. Our Creative Studio group, with over 20 visual designers, collaborates with senior staff to find the best ways to deliver this information to the audience. We work on materials that engage the public and assist clients in making informed decisions.

Our diverse and collaborative team consists of graphic designers, UI/UX designers, coders, data scientists, GIS professionals, planners, and landscape architects—all bound by a shared passion for transportation. We’re always eager to connect with creative designers interested in joining us to improve transportation communication.

Responsibilities
  • Establish creative vision for a broad range of applications, including data visualization, maps, final reports, presentations, and community engagement and execute this vision with limited direction and delegation to junior staff
  • Collaborate with diverse consultant teams on marketing and project deliverable strategies
  • Develop top tier creative work products for complex projects and competitive marketing pursuits
  • Collaborate with company-wide Creative Studio Planners to share and implement best practices in visual design and workflow, contribute to mentoring and delegating based on these practices
  • Maintain knowledge of design trends and inspiration; continually inject new ideas into our work
Qualifications
  • 2-5 years of professional work experience in creative design, ideally within a planning, transportation, or urban design environment.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in transportation, urban and regional planning, or a related major (e.g., geography, landscape architecture, economics)
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop)
  • Excellent visual and written communication skills, with an emphasis on distilling complex information into relatable stories
  • Strong interpersonal skills, commitment to collaboration, and a creative approach to problem‑solving
  • Portfolio demonstrating visual design capabilities
Additional Qualifications
  • Experience with ESRI ArcGIS
  • Superior organizational skills and the ability to multitask
  • Passion for learning new industry standards and cutting‑edge software programs
  • Professional experience in the A/E/C or other consulting industry, urban planning, urban design, transportation planning, or the aptitude to pick it up quickly
  • Experience delegating work to and providing input on the work of other designers
  • Experience with 3D visualization, data visualization, illustration, UI/UX design, web design, and/or coding
  • General business marketing experience
