The Office of Pupil Transportation (OPT) is dedicated to providing the students of New York City with safe, clean, dependable, efficient, cost-effective, and prompt transportation. OPT is responsible for supporting the educational process through the provision of services which are essential for the education of the children but occur outside of the classroom. Under the oversight of the OPT, the Transportation Coordinator assists in ensuring that children are transported in accordance with their IEP and A1p transportation authorizations. The Transportation Coordinator provides important community services and liaison functions between OPT, school transportation providers, schools, and the parents and families of students. The Coordinator disseminates critical information regarding New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) provided General Education (GE), Special Education (SE), and Pre-K/Early Intervention (E.I.) services. The Transportation Coordinator facilitates necessary communication between schools, the Committees on Special Education, both CSE and CPSE, and OPT. The Coordinator is responsible for advising school-based personnel on NYCPS transportation procedures and policies and provides targeted support for specific schools, including field inspections/observations, as needed. The Coordinator will be the primary resource for schools on transportation procedures and policies. Performs related work.

Relationships will be fostered with OPT administration, school bus transportation providers, school-based administration, and representatives from the Office of School Health, Special Education Office, Committees on Preschool Special Education, and the Office of Students in Temporary Housing, as well as community-based organizations (CBOs) and parents.

$72,114 - $75,000
(Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
