Job summary

CDR Maguire Inc. is seeking a Transportation Construction Inspector for the I-83 River Bridge project in York County, with a February 2027 opening.

The TCI will liaise with contractors, engineers and supervisors to ensure plans, specs and safety requirements are followed. The role involves preparing daily reports, maintaining schedules, reviewing shop drawings and contractor quotations, and monitoring quantities and costs of materials.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or higher; ability to read, write and perform basic math.
• BS Civil Engineering preferred; related construction experience beneficial.
• Experience in field inspections and knowledge of plans, specs, materials, and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Consult with contractors, consultants and engineers on plans, specs, materials, equipment, methods and safety.
• Prepare daily progress reports and maintain progress schedules.
• Check shop drawings and contractor quotations for variations.
• Record quantities and costs of materials used; prepare progress payment claims.
• Ensure compliance with contract documents and the health and safety plan.
• Check delivered materials for conformance to documents and verify contractor layout.
• Submit daily reports in accordance with requirements and communicate effectively.
• Operate and maintain office computers and equipment as needed.
• Work may require bending, kneeling, standing, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Occasionally perform manual labor and work in adverse weather.
• Limited exposure to chemicals.
• Travel as required and support supervisor as directed.

Job description

CDR Maguire Inc., a national multi-disciplinary engineering firm is seeking a Transportation Construction Inspector for the I-83 River Bridge project in York County for a February 2027 opening.

The Transportation Construction Inspector is responsible for consulting with contractors, consultants, engineers, job superintendents, and others in matters related to plans, specifications, materials, equipment, and the methods, practices and safety precautions involved in construction and installation of the work. The TCI prepares daily progress reports and maintains progress schedules; checks shop drawings and contractors' quotations for variations; keeps records of quantities and cost of materials used; prepares contractors' periodic progress payment claims and recommends payment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Ensure compliance with the contract documents by the contractor.
• Ensure compliance with the contractor’s health and safety plan.
• Check that delivered materials conform to the contract documents.
• Check contractor’s layout and verify accuracy.
• Prepare and submit daily reports of work performed in accordance with CDR Maguire’s and Owner’s requirements.
• Effective oral and written communication.
• Follow and convey instructions.
• Utilize computers and common office equipment.
• Ability to bend, stretch, kneel, sit, and stand.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Wear required personal protective gear/equipment.
• React to hazardous warnings and signals.
• Infrequently perform manual labor.
• Infrequently work in adverse weather conditions.
• Limited exposure to chemicals.

OTHER PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

• Travel as required and as it relates to above duties or as directed by supervisor.
• Provide positive attitude to establish competence and pride in the company.
• Other duties which may be required which are commensurate with the position.

High school diploma, GED, or post secondary education and can read, write, and communicate in English and do basic math computations for length, area, and volume.

The following certifications are required or combination thereof:

BS Civil Engineering Preferred

ACI/PennDOT Concrete field technician certification

PennDOT/PTC CDS certification

ECMS experience

OSHA 10-Hour certification
