Job Description

JMT is seeking qualified, experienced, and highly motivated individuals to oversee and inspect construction of roadway and site improvement projects, primarily involving stormwater, water, and sewer facilities in southeast Pennsylvania. The Construction Inspector will act as the client’s representative, working closely with clients such as Philadelphia Water Dept., City of Philadelphia, PennDOT, SEPTA, under the direction of the client’s Construction Manager. Responsibilities include verifying contract adherence, attending project meetings, documenting work progress, and monitoring construction quality and safety.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, inspect, and oversee daily project inspection activities to ensure contractor compliance with plans, contract documents, specifications, and standards.
  • Review and maintain project documentation, ensuring accurate details of construction progress, materials, environmental conditions, safety policies, and EEO/DBE performance.
  • Attend pre-bid, pre-construction, and management meetings; assist with project correspondence; update clients on construction progress and issues.
  • Interact with the public, government agencies, contractors, and other parties to respond to inquiries and resolve issues.

Work schedule varies and may include night work, weekends, and holidays.

Nonessential Functions

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of traffic maintenance & protection, earthwork, roadway, structure, bridge, stormwater, and utility construction techniques.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle for local travel.
  • Must pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening.

Required Experience

  • 3-5+ years of heavy/highway construction experience preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED required; additional coursework in civil engineering, project management, or related fields is a plus.
  • Preferred certifications include Professional Engineer’s License, NICET, PennDOT certifications, or ACI, but they are not mandatory.

Working Conditions

Fieldwork in various weather conditions; physically capable of bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting objects up to 25 lbs.
