Transportation Construction Inspector
Roanoke, VA – Full‑Time/Regular
JMT’s Virginia Construction Management Team seeks a Transportation Construction Inspector to apply standard inspection procedures to ongoing construction for structural quality, general safety, and conformance to plans, specifications, and codes. Immigration sponsorship is not available except for TN visa candidates.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Review and interpret plans, site layouts, specifications and construction methods to ensure compliance with legal requirements and safety regulations.
- Perform routine tests on concrete, soils and other materials.
- Measure dimensions and verify level, alignment, and elevation of structures, fixtures, grades and/or pavement to ensure compliance with plans and codes.
- Gather and maintain record documents.
- Make field notes and computations.
Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills
- Strong computer proficiency.
- Active driver's license.
- Must successfully complete and pass JMT’s Motor Vehicle screening.
Required Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent (may be substituted for experience).
- 1–4 years of roadway construction inspection experience.
Preferred Experience
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction management.
- Client‑requested certifications (VDOT: Soils & Aggregate, Asphalt I & II, Pavement Marking, GRIT; DEQ: E&S and SWM Inspector; Intermediate Workzone; Nuclear Safety; ACI‑Concrete Field Tech).
Working Conditions
Work is performed in the field. Ability to bend, kneel, stand, shovel, and lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
